Hackfest 2021: No (Tee) Time To Die

The 2021 Hackfest took place from Friday, September 10th through Sunday the 12th. A warm-up round occurred on Thursday for those who did not get enough punishment the next three days. Tim (Mr. T) and Julie Hidani were the gracious hosts of the mob this year - thanks, Tim and (especially) Julie! Their address is: 4985 Timber Trail, Mound, MN.

Post-Fest Note from the Artistic Director

All Hail 2021 Birdie King David Read!

And, I suppose, to a lesser extent, the extremely lucky “A Team”, which somehow stumbled to an unlikely team victory, likely never to be repeated.

I will take credit for the weather, which was almost certainly better than the golf, but not the fun.

Many thanks are due the Hidanis for a fine job hosting! Their home may never be the same. Thanks as well to Kate, Teri, and Julie (and anyone else I don’t know about) for putting together the Friday dinner. Good to see everyone.

We have completed another Fest without an eagle (the lack of eagles is a real mystery given the outstanding nature of the Hackfest competitors). For that matter I was not made aware of too many Highlight moments. David Read’s golf in Chicago, Tom making a long putt that killed my team, a few nice chips from Roger. Jim H tied Jeff in stroke play in the Chicago round. And finally, the bathrooms at Albion were manly. I think that’s it.

On the other side, every time you golf with them this year, please spend much of the round giving forceful golf suggestions, if not outright lessons to Jeff and Special K. Help them line up their putts, talk about pronation through the contact zone, use the words “not on plane” a lot, teach them about the grip, just generally take them to school. They need our help, clearly.

I’m glad you made it, hope you are too. At the moment, the plans for next year include the same sort of double tournament (team and individual competitions). I’m probably going to jack the entry fee up to $30 to make the skins worth a little more money. If you have any real suggestions for rule changes etc. Let me know and I will pass them along to the legends committee for their consideration.

Live long and prosper,
Brett

Pre-Fest Note from the Artistic Director

All,

All Hail Dick Hidani 2020 champion and Covid survivor.

After discussion with the legends committee, and recognizing that I am a doctor after all, please note the following: Participation in Hackfest golf and social activities this year, including pre-Hackfest golf on Thursday will be limited to those who have been vaccinated or have been diagnosed as having been previously infected by the Covid virus. We are all of us points of contact for our family, friends and coworkers, and believe this is an easy, clear-cut approach to doing our part to keep us and them healthy. Missing the Fest this year under this rule does not exclude you from future-year invites, it just is what it is in Fall 2021.

Hopefully I will see you at the Fest, but please let me know at your earliest convenience if, for this, or some other reason you will not be involved in Hackfest activities this year.

As a reminder, the Hackfest will be held in Minneapolis this year. Optional pre Hackfest golf on the afternoon of Thursday, September 9th; First round of the Fest on the afternoon of Friday, September 10th; Second Round on Saturday September 11th; and final round on the morning of Sunday, September 11th. There will be a team champion crowned based on the results of the Friday, Saturday rounds, and an individual champion crowned based on the results of the Saturday and Sunday rounds.

Accommodation available at the home of Tim and Julie Hidani. Please reach out to Tim if you plan on staying there.

If you notice I have an old email address for someone on this list please let me know.

Be well,
Brett Johnson BA, MA, JD, PhD.
