Hackfest 2023: Eddie Gets Married

The 2023 Hackfest was a bit different from previous 'Fests! It took place from October 13-15, 2023, in Alabama. We played Grand National on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail (Auburn/Opelika), approximately 90 minutes from the Atlanta airport. See the Artistic Director's email (below) for more details.

Results

Gary "Picasso" Mullen-Schultz is this year's new Birdie King!

The team ineptly named "Mister T and the A Team" unfortunately won for a third straight time, due to a statistical anomoly. Imagine flipping a coin 100 times and having it come up "heads" every one.

And then a thousand more.

That was Team MTAT.

I suppose we have to say "congrats." So - congrats, you losers.

Here are the individual results of the 2023 Hackfest.

2022 Birdie King Tees Off

Rules

Here are the final revised rules for the 2023 Hackfest. There were some changes onsite due to a Duane Anderson brain fart.

Participants

Mike Allerding (2022 Birdie King); Duane Anderson; Jeff Carter; Travis Fleming; Tim Hidani; James Hove; Phil Jirsa; Brett Johnson; John Kast; Jim "Special K" Kenealy; Chaz Larson; Roger Mahre; Gary Mullen-Schultz; Eric Petersen; David Read.

Absent this year are: Brian Dukart (family emergency); Tom Sandberg (assholery); Trent Shipley (prior commitment).

Golf Venues

All rounds took place at Grand National golf venue on the Robert Trent Jones Trail in Auburn/Opelika, Alabama. There are two main courses at Grand National: The Lake, and The Links.

Thursday's practice round took place at The Lake course. Tee times commenced at 1:10PM.

Friday's round occured at The Links. Birdie King teed off at 12:10PM. This was followed by the Champion's Dinner at Agave Loco in Opelika.

For Saturday, we teed off on The Lake at noon sharp.

Sunday's deciding round took place at The Links starting at 8:00AM.

Pre-Fest Note from the Artistic Director

All honor and glory to our esteemed Birdie King, Mike Allerding! On the other hand, I continue to wear a mask of shame because my team could not compete with the boys at (Gary's Old Town Tavern) MTAT.

Because most of you are old and set in your ways, I'm changing things up for next year's Hackfest. Moving the date, and the location. I propose we play at Grand National on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, (Auburn/Opelika, Alabama), the weekend of October 12-15. Traditional Fest on Friday through Sunday with a pre-fest round on Thursday. Cost for golf will be $460 for 4 rounds, $344 for 3 rounds (not playing Thursday). There is a beautiful par three course there as well, that I may try to play on Saturday. I'm waiting for a lodging quote. but assume $60-$120 per night per person.

We have some flexibility on the date between mid-September and mid-October (weather looks great that time of year) so if you have a concret obstacle already in existence that would preclude you from getting to the event, let me know the conflicting date and I will see if there is a work around.

If you decide NOT to join us in Alabama in 2023, you will NOT be barred from further Hackfest events. But, please let me know as soon as possible if you are a definite yes or no.

May Buddha love and protect you (from yourselves),
Brett Johnson
